The Tree Hotel

I’ve never been the camping type. My father never took us on weekends in the wilderness and I’m very thankful for that. It’s just not my thing and the Blair Witch Project reaffirmed it ’99. However, something has caught my eye that could lure me into the woods once and for all. We all remember when the Swedes came out the Ice Hotel, travel journalists still rave about it in glossy editorials. This year, however, there’s a new hotel in town. In the North of Sweden, The Tree Hotel has taken the idea of the childhood tree-house and made it into a five-star holiday getaway.

Opening with six rooms, but later to expand to twenty-four, each cabin has been designed by a different architect. Featuring luxuries such as a sauna in your tree-house, don’t expect prices to be cheap. Activities in the winter include dog-sledding through the frozen landscape, snow shoe walking in pursuit of the northern lights, ice fishing and midnight horseriding, cycling or kayaking in the summer.

Whether you choose to be active or not, the point is to get away and get in touch with nature. Every part of the hotel is environmentally friendly and designed in harmony with the surrounding forest. If only to try something different, the Tree Hotel has, against all odds, made it on to the Messy Nessy destination list.
